An alumnus of Loyola University Chicago Alan traveled West to California armed with both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts. He swiftly embarked on a career in Real Estate working with the legendary Bob Crane and Associates, an impassioned Realtor who successfully lobbied for Lake Hollywood and Mulholland's Mission-styled dam to be designated a Cultural Monument, and later June Scott in Beverly Hills. With a solid foundation and a fresh new vision based on cooperation and collaboration, Alan started his own company, DBL Realtors.
The company grew substantially from 4 agents in a single office, to over 800 agents in 9 offices from Palm Springs to Malibu boasting annual sales of over $5 billion. In 2005 Alan sold DBL to Sotheby’s International Realty remaining at the helm for a further three years as President of Sotheby’s. Upon completion, Alan retired and chased his dreams to Park City, Utah to become a proficient skier . . .
It took only one trip around the sun to master the slopes before Alan did what Alan does best: build a ground-up real estate office out of a 100-year-old mine shack, one that is attached to an active silver mine. Well, once again, silver turned to gold and five years later Alan sold that real estate office to Windermere Realty and retired for a second time.
Two years on he was approached by a start-up real estate office founded by technology-minded individuals from San Francisco. Alan became their Managing Director and oversaw 250 agents from Palm Springs to Santa Monica. Later they shifted from public-facing real estate, focusing solely on Artificial Intelligence platform development.
Alan has been President of the Los Angeles Board of Realtors and Director of the California Association of Realtors, and in 2020 he was bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor voted on by 11,000 of his peers. He has been involved with Chrysalis since 1995 an entity that works with economically disadvantaged individuals by teaching them how to procure and keep employment. Alan also works with Wings to Freedom which flies sheltered animals from overcrowded shelters to their forever homes.
Alan resides in Malibu on a 35-acre ranch with two Rottweilers, two cats, a turtle, and six chickens. He enjoys skiing, hiking, yoga, and extreme traveling . . . overall, he loves and lives his best life.
We are proud that Alan hangs his license at Carolwood Estates, and now figure-heads a team of committed, intelligent, and wonderfully astute realtors as part of the Alan Long Group.
