Vanessa Alexander, principal of AD PRO Directory firm Alexander Design, listed her family’s own home in Malibu. Working with Kovac Design Studio, Alexander remodeled the five-bedroom, six-bathroom property. The 2020 project was a full-scale reimagining, creating a Belgian-inspired modern farmhouse out of what was once a ’60s ranch. Hand-applied plaster walls, custom wood beams by PSS Design Cult, and bronze accents are among the many bespoke details that make its subdued interiors impactful.

Some Malibu properties may be oriented around ocean views, but the 1.3 acre sprawl, located in Bonsall Canyon, is a secluded cocoon. “This is definitely not a sun-worshiping beach house,” Alexander told AD when the home was featured online back in 2021. “We don’t see the ocean from here. Instead, we see mountains and big trees, but the most remarkable part about this landscape is the painterly quality of the light.”

A 60-foot pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen, and a firepit wait in the backyard, which the living spaces and primary suite open directly onto. A home gym built into a shipping container and a sauna sit elsewhere on the property. The listing is held by Barry Watts of Carolwood Estates.
